AFC Anchor Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 18

Saturday 9th April, 3pm Kick Off, Rock Park, Barnstaple

Torridgeside Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 17

Posted 03/04/2011

Big match for the Chiefs as they knew if Lions 3rd lose against Hartland Res and they win, they take the 5th position and that is exactly what happened. Both teams got off to a quiet start but that all changed when Wayne Jeffery playing Right Back took the ball all the way up the pitch, across the bye line and slotted home a fantastic goal and skinning 6-7 players in the process in the 10th minute. This settled the Chiefs but the first half was very scrappy with neither team doing anything to report about. Half Time Score 0 - 1

Second half and the Chiefs started well but it was a battle between the Midfield and Defence for both teams. Neither team having the finished product with both keeper having only a handful of saves to make all game. Final 25 minutes and the Chiefs started to push harder as the game become more open but it was a stale mate and neither team managed another goal.

Chiefs Manager "Job done and 3 points earnt but what a battle it was today. Having checked the League website it looks like they had 4 possible 1st teamers in which makes our win a lot better and will explain the bigger battle. After Ali falling ill and being let down by 2 other players we did a great job today and everyone performed a great shift, cant ask for more than that. Another win and another clean sheet. Roll on Saturday were we play AFC Anchor Res, not only a local derby but a battle for Pub bragging rights..... Well done Lads!!"

Final Score 0 - 1 (Wayne Jeffery 10)

Anchor Chiefs v Northam Lions Thirds

League Match 16

Posted 26/03/2011

The game started very slowly for both teams with most of the play battling between midfield and defence. Chiefs were pushing hard but were not playing the best football and lucky enough neither were the Lions. A great turning half volley by Danny Murch was disallowed after the Referee judged he controlled the ball with his arm. Apart from this nothing much happened. Half Time Score 0 - 0

After a reshuffle at Half Time the Chiefs started to play a lot better and was pushing back the Lions at ever opportunity but finding the back of the net seamed to be the only missing part. It was starting to look like this was going to another 0 - 0 draw against the Lions. Chiefs Stand in Keeper Martin Ashton had very little to do throughout the game with his defensive 4 in front of him doing a great job when needed. Its was 15 minutes left to play and the Chiefs normal Keeper Mark Tattersall was on the bench after hurting his hand in training. The Chiefs seamed be winning a lot in the air and since Mark is 6 foot 4 the Chiefs Manager give him his debut as an out field player after taking the goal keeper roll as a favour to his uncle Chiefs Manager Mick Tattersall in January 2008. What happened next was something special and the lads on the sidelines were talking about before it happened. Danny Murch sent a perfect cross in which Mark headed into the back of the net in the 83rd minute and the Chiefs went wild. Chiefs continued to push hard up to the very end but did not find that net again.

Chiefs Manager "The first half was not great to watch and both teams were poor but the second half was a lot better but we need to take them chances when we get them. I saw some good things today and some bad things but we managed to grind a win and get the 3 points. For those of you unaware, Mark took the keeper job as a favour to me as he was a Striker but at 6 foot 4 he was the best choice when we started in Jan 2008. After he hurt his hand at training on Wednesday I decided to still put him in the squad with an option of giving him 15 minutes as an outfield player should the game allow it. As we was winning a lot in the air I took the punt of taking Ali off and giving Mark a well deserved outfield debut. We was all joking on the sidelines that he would score the winner and when that actually happened I was gobsmacked. I have to work with him and now I am going to hear about it all week. What a crazy day but we got the 3 points and that top 5 is getting closer."

Final Score 1 - 0 (Mark Tattersall 83)

Fremington v Anchor Chiefs

North Devon Journal Cup Semi Final

Posted 20/03/2011

Always was going to be a tuff game and it was just that. Having a few players from the 1 nil loss, the Chiefs started to battle well. 17 Minutes in there was a call for the ball crossing the Chiefs goal line but this was refused by the Referee but on the 23rd Minute the same call was heard and this time the Referee gave the goal, from were we were stood the 1st one looked more a goal than the second. This knocked the Chiefs but they battled on but the 2nd cam in the 38th minutes. Half Time Score 2 - 0

After some stern words from the Chiefs Manager we started to play some better football and started using the width of the pitch like we should have done but Fremington caught us on the break scoring in the 3rd minute. The Chiefs battled hard but it was not to be our day.

Chiefs Manager " What I don't understand was we played a narrow game when we always play a wide game, this was not the instructions given. I can train and coach a lot of things but desire is not one of them. We played well in places but the desire to win the ball and to compete was not there. Team spirit has been great but today it seamed to have gone. Back 4 were fantastic again but there was 1 to many players out there playing for themselves and not the team. Things will change, you have been warned. Roll on Northam Lions after the goalless draw at their place, I cant see that happening again - Next week is about Passion, Spirit and Desire and remember there is no "I" in Team.

I would also like to wish Fremington all the very best in the finals, should make a great final"

Final Score 3 - 0

Pilton Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 15

Posted 05/03/2011

After Wednesday nights battle we was well up for this game, although we have played and beaten Pilton Res twice already this was our first League game and we both were looking at the 3 points. Chiefs got off to a fast start and was soon battling in the Pilton Penalty area when a Penalty was awarded for a hand ball within the first minute, this was converted by Shayne Voisey. We continued to push well when a free kick was awarded 35 yards out in the 8th minute. Carl Roberts making his debut since he transferred from Park Utd put in a fantastic ball over the Pilton back line that had Shaun Hastings leaping up with a side footed volley knocking the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. Both teams were playing well with each having a few chances but in the 35th minute Pilton almost walked the ball through and scored. This made the Chiefs push harder and 4 minutes after the restart a superbly taken ball by Wayne Jeffery who calmly flicked the ball over the advancing keeper and overhead kicked it in the net. Half Time Score 1 - 3

Start of the second half saw a change at the back as Chiefs Defender Andrew Gist had to be replaced after injuring his knee just before half time, this meant Wayne Jeffery dropping to right back, Shayne Voisey moving from Left wing to striker and making his come back from appendicitis Liam Shaxton going to his normal left wing position. Some good football was on display but it was Shaxton who brought down the advancing Pilton player in the box to hand Pilton a Penalty which they converted in the 23rd minute to make it 2 - 3. A third penalty of the day went to the Chiefs after the Ref had judged the Pilton player had handled the ball in the 32nd minute. Shaun Hastings took the penalty that was easily saved by the Pilton Keeper. A great kick from Chiefs Keeper Mark Tattersall, who was happily demanding to be credited for the assist landed to Liam Shaxton who turned 3 Pilton players to slot home the 4th goal for the Chiefs in the 45th minute and make amends for his earlier error.

Chiefs Manager " Another great game for us, 3 lads making their full debut after transferring Darren Smith & Daniel Murch from AFC Anchor and Carl Roberts from Park Utd. All 3 had a good game considering they still don't know everyone's name. Perfect start by bagging a goal for Liam Shaxton after having appendicitis. This game had a bit of everything, 2 scored Penalties, 1 missed penalty, a couple of great goals by Shaun Hastings and Wayne Jeffery, dog on the pitch and not to forget Keeper Mark Tattersall's stunning through ball (that's £5 he owes me). After playing Pilton 3 times and winning all 3, I can say that this seamed the easier of the 3, I am not sure if that was our play or their players to be fair but it was a good game as always. Moving from 8th position to 6th and being 1 point behind Northam Lions 3rds with 3 games in hand and although equal in games only 2 points behind Barnstaple FC, I would say we are well on target for that top 5 finish and we have the League Cup Semi Final to look forward to in a fortnight. As for next week, we have no game as Keeper Mark Tattersall is to get married and we wish Him and his soon to be Wife all the very best for their magical day ahead as it will all go downhill from their ;) "

Final Score 2 - 4 (Shayne Voisey 1 (pen), Shaun Hastings 8, Wayne Jeffery 39 & Liam Shaxton 90)

Anchor Chiefs v Fremington

League Match 14

Posted 04/03/2011

Wednesday evening football under floodlights at Torrington has always had its ups and downs for the Chiefs and after the last game being beaten 9 nil, this was not one we was looking forward too. The game started well for both teams and was a mix of midfield battles and great defending. Both teams having their chances but neither team being able to put the ball in the back of the net. Half Time Score 0 - 0

First half was a vast improvement from the last game but the half time team talk was based on not letting things get sloppy. Fremington started a lot strong and with a bit of commotion in the Chiefs penalty area in the 8th minute, the ball was in the back of the net with the Chiefs going mad for off side but with no flag from the Chiefs Lineman, the goal stood. This unsettled the Chiefs and spurred Fremington on for another 10-15 minutes, pushing the Chiefs back. The Chiefs soon settled again and started to play better football but any chances that came where not converted into goals and to be fair Fremington's luck was no better either. The Chiefs had a good final 10 minutes but still the one goal lead stood until the final whistle.

Chiefs Manager "I think that was one of the most hectic games I have been involved in this season. The game had everything, missed chances, offside goal, head clashes and good battling football. This game could have gone either way and for the neutral would have made for good viewing. Regarding the goal, end of the day our linesman said he was so into the game he was not even thinking about offside's and he has a valid point as it was a great game to watch, so I understand how easily you can be drawn into the game. No complaints from me though as these things happen but a draw would have been great for us. Overall I am very happy with the shift put in by the lads and the well fought battle I saw tonight. I am sure they will all be feeling it in the morning."

Final Score 0 - 1

Anchor Chiefs v Braunton Fourths

League Match 13

Posted 20/02/2011

Story of the 1st half for the Chiefs were missed chances. Passing and movement was fantastic again with great communication but the finishing was not up to the mark. Chiefs 1st goal came from a fantastic free kick taken 20 yards out and placed perfectly in the bottom corner by Ali Davidson in the 25th minute. Chiefs continued to push having plenty of chances to go further ahead. A goal from Wayne Jeffery in the 32nd minute gave the Chiefs a 2 nil lead. 10 Minutes later Jeffery's bagged his 2nd goal with a fantastic turn with the ball leaving the Braunton defender wrong footed in the mud and slamming it home for a 3 nil lead. Half Time Score 3 - 0

Second half Braunton started well and with a Corner in the 8th minute got themselves on the score sheet with a great header to make it 3 - 1. A very well fought 2nd half but like the last time we played Braunton they started to push harder and it paid off with another great volleyed effort in the 31st minute to make it 3 - 2. A disallowed goal was the only thing that stopped Wayne Jeffery from bagging his 1st hat trick for the Chiefs after he was judged to hand ball from a poorly taken kick from the keeper, Referee then consulted with the Braunton Linesman and disallowed a great goal. Both teams pushed hard and both had various missed chances but the score line stayed the same.

Chiefs Manager "A great start by us, we are looking sharper and the communication is starting to work well. Great Freekick by Ali and 2 great goals from Wayne. We missed a lot of chances in the 1st half, we could have easily been 5-6 nil up at half time. Second half although we did still miss some chances, braunton took there's well and made this game closer than it needed to be.... too close towards the end. Defensively we looked strong with a well marshalled back line by Jamie and Will with great strength on the flanks from Gisty and Mick. Ali and Stocky are looking very consistant together in the middle of the park too. Wayner had a great game upfront and was finally looking comfortable in the team. Some issues will be addressed at training but considering we had our Keeper out, Pigeon did a great job. They say things come in 3's so that is it for injuries now I hope. 2 lads out with appendicitis and now Mark (Keeper) falling down the stairs and straining his ankle .....whatever next. These things are set to try us lads but we remain strong and have won the last 4. (3 league and 1 Cup) Well done lads!!"

Final Score 3 - 2 (Ali Davidson 25, Wayne Jeffery 32 & 42)

Anchor Chiefs v Pilton Academicals Res

North Devon Journal Cup Quarter Final

Posted 12/02/2011

Another game with Pilton in a cup and it was as close as the last one. Both teams started very slowly and was canceling each other out. The breakthrough came when 16 year old Striker Matt Nailor standing in for Shayne Voisey was judged to have been brought down by the Pilton Keeper. Chiefs leading goal scorer Shaun Hastings stepped up and scored from the spot. Some great football was starting to show from both teams but both defences were standing strong. Half Time Score 1 - 0.

The 2nd half was as much as a close call as the first. Keepers making Saves, Defences standing strong and most of the battles were in the midfield. Chiefs did hit the back of the net when Substitute Wayne Jeffery was judged to be off side after so expertly lobbed the ball over the keeper and to be fair the lines man got it spot on.

Chiefs Manager "Firstly we would like to wish Liam Shaxton and Matt Hatten a speedy recover. Hatten went in with burst appendix a couple of weeks ago and Shaxton went in on Monday with the same. We were missing a few players today with Shayne being away being replaced with Nailor, Will being away and Pidg stepping in and Shacko, who had such a great match last week but 16 Year Old Bideford College Year 11 Student Joe Barker stepped up to the plate for his debut. Everyone deserves a pat on the back including the old warlord of the team 37 year old Jamie White who only got to bed at 5am this morning but his war cry's were ringing in everyone's ears today. As for Pilton Res, great bunch of lads and the 2 teams are so similar we pretty much cancelled each other out. Roll on the Semi Finals now.... Well Done Lads"

Final Score 1 - 0 (Shaun Hastings 21 (Pen) )

Anchor Chiefs v North Molton Thirds

League Match 12

Posted 06/02/2010

Without a league game since 11th December its was finally time to see if we could still play good football. Chiefs got off to a great start with Striker Shaun Hastings flicking the ball off his head into the bottom corner in the 1st minute thanks to a great throw in by Ali Davidson. Colin Bowden soon made it 2 with a great run and good strength to hold off the North Molton defender to bag his first goal for the Chiefs in the 10th minute. Chiefs continued to pile on the pressure when Hastings grabbed his 2nd for the day in the 17th minute. Liam Shaxton told by the Chiefs manager he needs to see some goals saw one in style after Shaxton smashed the ball off the inside of the cross bar and in with a fierce strike in the 22nd minute. Having a couple of attempts saved, Chiefs striker Shayne Voisey made this one count in the 36th minute. A great half from the Chiefs with any pressure dealt with by the Chiefs back line who was showing great strength and shape. Half Time Score 5 - 0.

The key to the 2nd half was not to let it slip and continue the pressure and it was again the perfect start with Shaxton hitting his 2nd for the day in the 1st minute. Things started to settle for both teams with North Molton making a few changes and started to be a bit more competitive. A scrappy mess in the Chiefs box with the ball bouncing off all players like pinball it landed at the feet of a North Molton player who hit the net in the 17th minute. The was very backwards and forwards, Chiefs were making it harder work in the last 30 minutes than it needed to be and started to lose their shape a bit giving North Molton chance but nothing came back from North Molton. North Molton Keeper made some great saves throughout the game and kept the score line lower. Again another scrappy ball in which ended in the back of the Chiefs net 1 minute from time, not the best way to finish the match but North Molton deserved it for the last minute push.

Chiefs Manager Mick Tattersall "Well we finally get a game in, I had almost forgotten what to do and was a bit nervous like it was our first game again. The key for the game was communication and Shape which we learnt from the Boca game and by putting this into our game more, we played a lot better. I cant fault anyone today Communication, Shape, Altitude, Passing and Fitness was all great. Very pleased to see Shacko and Norvy bag some goals as well as Shayne and Shaun looking sharper. The back line of Gisty, Jamie, Will and Mick was solid today as well and was controlled how we needed it to be with good communication form the Keeper. Midfield played great and kept the centre of the park well. Next couple of week we will have tougher games but if we continue like this then we will be a match again for any team............ except Boca ;). Well done lads a very well deserved win"

Final Score 6 - 2 (Shaun Hastings 1, 17, Colin Bowden 10, Liam Shaxton 22, 46 & Shayne Voisey 36)

Braunton Fourths v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 11

Posted 12/12/2010

4 weeks without a game and we finally get one. Not the best of starts with the Chiefs only having 1 Defender available so it was down to 16 Year Old Andrew Gist to control a back 4, containing 3 midfield players and 2 off them were making their debuts. The game started at a fast pace for both teams and were evenly matched. The break through came with a goal of the season contender in the 30th minute from Chiefs Ali Davidson, connecting with a sweet volley from 30 yards leaving the keeper no chance, a great goal to mark Ali's birthday in style. This made the final 15 minutes interesting for both teams with saves being made at both ends and the score staying the same. Half Time Score 0 - 1.

After the manager warning the Chiefs that Braunton will come flying out from the start and that is exactly what they did but Gist kept his back line tight and the Chiefs started to push back. Not very often do you see 2 goal of the season contenders in the same game but Chiefs 16 year old Chris "Stocky" Stockton connected with a half volley from 35 yards forcing the keeper to attempt a save but the pace on the shot made the keeper fumble and the ball landing in the back of the net. Some good football was on show by both teams but it was Braunton who continued to push the Chiefs to their limits. The last 25 minutes were completely Braunton pinning back the Chiefs but Gist kept his back line strong. Great saves from Chiefs keeper Mark Tattersall and some amazing defensive blocks from the whole team kept the score line at 2 nil. On the 41st minute a counter attack by the Chiefs ended in a Own Goal, not completely sure what happened if it was a keeper error or a defensive error but a goal all the same. Again Braunton never gave in and continued to push for a goal and in the 43rd minute they finally got a very well deserved goal.

Chiefs Manager "What a great game of football, a game I was not looking forward to with 1 defender but I stuck to my attacking plan and it paid off. Everyone put in a great shift especially the lads at the back. Colin Bowden and Mike Nicholls playing left and right back and making their debuts were outstanding. My 2 16 year old Centre backs of Brandon Neal-Reidy & Andrew Gist did exactly what I asked, Brandon to attack the ball and Gisty to control the back line. The lads in Midfield did exactly as I planned and the consistent attacking though the middle and the wings worked well. As for the 2 goals they were something special by both lads and something they will never forget. I am seriously proud of my lads today. I take my hat off to Braunton Fourths, this team never gave up and never stopped showing the fighting spirit from a bunch of young lads, some teams would have dropped their heads and lost by a bigger margin but they never did and the score line does not reflect that effort both teams put in."

Final Score 1 - 3 (Ali Davidson 30, Chris Stockton 60 & OG 86)

Park Utd v Anchor Chiefs

Braunton Cup Rd 1

Posted 15/11/2010

After another quick start by the Chiefs, its was the Park Utd goalkeeper who bought down Chiefs young gun Striker Liam Shaxton in the 7th minute and it was the 16 year old Shaxton who stepped up and smashed in a great penalty kick for the Chiefs to take the unexpected lead. It was in the 20th minute when Chiefs defender Martin Ashton who down the park utd striker to return the penalty kick, which was converted, 3 minutes later Wayne Jeffery scoring his first goal for the Chiefs. Jeffery who normally plays right back was moved to striker for this match due to missing players. More great football on a very wet and slippery pitch, with a few chances by both sides the score remained. Half Time Score 1 - 2

Park Utd came out in the 2nd half wondering how they were behind but it was an injury to Chiefs Keeper Mark Tattersall have to pass his gloves to his 16 year old cousin and number 2 Adam Tattersall, Adam making his surprise debut as keeper could not stop the result corner going in after the change. A disallowed goal in the 10th minute saw Park seriously step up there game and took the lead in the 11th minute. Chiefs opening scorer Liam Shaxton was the next casualty on the injury list but with a small Chiefs reshuffle they carried on battling hard. Park Utd was starting to pile on the pressure and Adam Tattersall was making some great saves to keep the score line down but eventually the tired legs started to show as Park Utd scored in the 36th and 39th minute and a final goal right on the whistle at 45 minutes.

Chiefs Manager " What a great battle against a side that is 33 places above us in the Senior division and have a great home record scoring 28 goals in their last 4 home games. To finish 6-2 was not a great reflection of the game as we made this team work hard for this result and I think in better conditions without the injuries, who knows what would have happened. For a Father and Manager to see his Son step up for his Debut in goal against a big side, he did fantastically well and it showed by the respect the Park Utd players gave him after the match. We had 7 lads that were 16 years old out of the squad of 14 out there today. Everyone did a great job today, showing heart and pride yet again, big matches like this will only you us stronger as a team. Well done Park Utd, a great bunch of lads and I wish them all the best in the league and the Braunton Cup. Well Done Chiefs!!"

Final Score 6 - 2 (Liam Shaxton 7 (pen) & Wayne Jeffery 23)

Fremington v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 10

Posted 07/11/2010

After a great start that saw the Chiefs 16 Year Old Centre Midfield player Chris Stockton smash a shot off the Fremington crossbar it was Fremington that opened the scoring with a goal in the 3rd minute. Chiefs battled well but Fremington scored again in the 13th minute. Some great football was being played but the killer blow came in the 45th minute when Fremington hit their 3rd. Half Time Score 3 - 0

Second half is were Fremington showed their class, some great football and fantastic movement left the Chiefs chasing the game all the way through the 2nd half. Fremington hit their 4th in the 5th minute and another 2 minutes later to make it 5 nil. Another brace in the 12th and 16th minute was turning into a nightmare for the Chiefs. 2 penalties were converted in the 25th and 35th minute for Fremington. Chiefs never let their heads drop and battled right through to the very end.

Chiefs Manager "Wow what a game, I wished it had rained very hard. My biggest defeat since forming Anchor Chiefs but what a great outfit Fremington are. After speaking to the Fremington Manager after the game he tells me this is the first time they has actually been at full strength, they certainly sent out the big message. The standard of the players in that team are way above the level for Intermediate 2 but they are there and you have to battle on. This is exactly what the Chiefs did they battled and never dropped their heads and fought to the very end. For that I would like to say Thank you to the Anchor Chiefs Players, it shows true character to carry on the fight were most teams would have crumbled. There is no disgrace in losing a game like that providing you try, and boy did we try. Well done Fremington a great win and lesson learnt"

Final Score 9 - 0

Anchor Chiefs v Bradworthy Res

North Devon Journal Cup Round 1

Posted 31/10/2010

A serious talking too was all the Chiefs needed before the start of this match. Lack of goals over the last 2 games certainly was not on the agenda in this match. A great start by the Chiefs saw Shaun Hastings smashing his 1st goal in the 3rd minute. Sloppy defending by the Chiefs brought Bradworthy back into the game with an equaliser in the 7th minute. A great through ball was taken by Hastings before being brought down in the area for a penalty which Shaun Hastings converted into his 2nd goal in the 16th minute. After missing an opportunity only a few minutes either Shayne Voisey made up his mistake with a well taken goal in the 25th minute. Both teams were playing some great football with solid challenges coming in from both teams. With a 3-1 lead going into half time, the Referee decided to continue passed 45 minutes in which Bradworthy created a goal in the 47th minute. This was not what the Chiefs needed going to half time. Half Time Score 3 - 2

A few solid words was all that was needed to fire the Chiefs back into action and within the 1st minute Chiefs leading goal scorer Shaun Hastings banged in his hat trick goal. More chance came to the Chiefs but they were unable to convert these. Bradworthy managed to get another goal in the 25th minute to take the score to 4 - 3 against the run of play. The Chiefs dug in hard and played with real pride and it paid off with Hastings getting his 4th goal in the 28th minute. The spirit had certainly returned to the Chiefs as they battled hard. To finish it all off Hastings smashed in his 5th for the day in the 89th minute.

Chiefs Manager "Today we battled, today we played with pride and today we were back to winning ways. The 1st half although we did well, we did not convert our chances and a goal in the 47th minute did not help. The attitudes at half time was not good but after words were said we responded with true spirit. 2nd half was a battle and showed how well we can play. Everyone did their part today and the result shows, we were the stronger team. Bradworthy knew they were in a battle today and again we came out with the win. Well done lads, just what we needed"

Final Score 6 - 3 (Shaun Hastings 3, 16(pen), 46, 73, 89 & Shayne Voisey 25)

Northam Lions Thirds v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 9

Posted 31/10/2010

A very poor half by both teams, neither really testing the goalkeepers at either end. The attitude and performance by the Chiefs was very poor and nothing like the last game against Northside. Half Time Score 0 - 0

After a half time roasting by the Chiefs manager, the team start to pull together and started to play a lot better football. Attitudes were still not acceptable but the performance was a lot better. Although not many chance came from either team, the Chiefs played a better half. A very poor game to watch which we apologise to those that came out to watch.

Chiefs Manager "I don't understand what happened in the 4 days since the Northside game. You should be playing with pride but all you did was argue in the first half. Performance, Attitude and Spirit was very poor and not acceptable. A better second half but the damage was already done. Probably the worse match I have ever watched. Get it sorted Lads"

Final Score 0 - 0

Northside Atlantic v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 8

Posted 31/10/2010

After our 2 nil defeat at home, it was time to play Northside Atlantic again, this time under flood lights at Torrington. Chiefs were playing some great football but as last time we met Northside they were just to strong. Northside scoring their first goal in the 16th minute. A penalty was then given as stand in goalkeeper Jake Butler brought down a player and the resulting Pen was expertly saved by Jake. Another goal from Northside in the 30th minute was enough for the first half. Half Time Score 2 - 0

Second half saw the Chiefs fighting but an early goal in the 6th minute gave Northside a 3 nil lead. A strong fight by the Chiefs was not good enough as the strength of Northside kept the score the same until the final whistle.

Chiefs Manager "Northside deserved the win and through both games were the stronger team. Chiefs players did not let themselves down and gave Northside a good game in both meetings. Everyone put in a great shift and did yourself proud."

Final Score 3 - 0

Anchor Chiefs v Hartland Reserves

League Match 7

Posted 17/10/2010

Nothing much to say about the first half. Chiefs were playing some great football but not taking the chances that fell to them. Chiefs most of the play but still finished the first half goalless. Half Time Score 0 - 0

Second started were the first finished. Chiefs had most of the play but could not score. A error at the back again caused Hartland to take the lead in the 26th minute and then defend very well. Rest of the 2nd half the Chiefs had Hartland pinned back but just like the whole game, they could not get the ball in the net. Great defending by Hartland in places.

Chiefs Manager "Well I don't know what to say lads, losing 1 nil does not reflect the game, we played very well but without goals it means nothing. I cant fault anyone and I thought we was all over them and very comfortable but it shows one mistake and we lose 3 points. Time to step up to the plate lads and get back into a winning habit. Big game Wednesday at Torrington and I expect everyone to give 100% and enjoy it."

Final Score 0 - 1

Anchor Chiefs v Barnstaple FC

County Cup Match Rd 2

Posted 12/10/2010

From the start this was going to be a hard game for the Chiefs. Some great football was being played by both teams but it was the Chiefs to break the deadlock in the 31st minute with a well taken strike from Jake "Rafa" Butler another one of the Chiefs young players coming up form the Youth ranks. The lead did not last long with a defensive mix up between the Chiefs Keeper and Centre saw allowed Barnstaple to sneak in and score the equaliser. A strike strike in the 36th minute by Shayne Voisey was then disallowed by the Ref after seeing the lineman's flag up for off side. Just as the Chiefs thought it was going to all square at halftime Barnstaple take the lead in the 43rd minute with a fantastic bit of play. Half Time Score 1 - 2

Second half saw an awful start for the Chiefs with Barnstaple scoring in the 1st minute and then again in the 10th minute. Some chance fell to the Chiefs but were not taken and a great defensive clearance off the line by Barnstaple kept the Chiefs away from scoring anymore.

Chiefs Manager "There were some great football played today but we made some very silly mistakes and they made us pay for them. No doubting the Barnstaple team are a great team and it is showing that after 1 season in senior football most of the lads are a lot stronger from it. We gave them a good game but we still need more commitment to the ball and off the ball we need players to be thinking ahead. Well Done Rafa great goal mate. We are still building our squad but I can see improvements and I expect to see a better result on Saturday. Well done Barnstaple FC and all the very best in the next round"

Chittlehampton Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 06

Posted 02/10/2010

Fantastic start for the Chiefs with a well taken goal from Shayne Voisey in the 1st minute but Chittlehampton equalised after the Referee deemed a trip in the box in the 11th minute. Chittle then took the lead in the 29th minute before Voisey banged in his 2nd in the 40th minute. Some good football by both teams in a very good clean competitive match. Half Time Score 2 - 2

Second half so Chittle take the lead with yet another Penalty this time for a hand ball which Chittle converted. The Chiefs were pushing very hard and in the 12th minute Shayne Voisey bagged his hat trick. At 3 all both teams were pushing hard but as the game went on the Chiefs got stronger and with 5 minutes remaining Voisey got his 4th of the game to take the Chiefs to another 3 points.

Chiefs Manager " We what a great start but I think that early goal unsettled us as we scored very quickly and then started to rush the game thinking we were going to score big. The 2 penalty decisions were the talking point of the day as even the Chittlehampton Players and Officials said they were both not penalties but that's football. I am glad we took the 3 points as we did not deserve anything less. Well done to Shayne, I said we needed goals today and he produced 4. With recent departures of 2 players I think we did a great job to fill the gaps they left and I know that we still have great players that can do the job. We should have scored a few more but these goals will come, remember we don't need to score big to gain 3 points, we just need to win. Well done Lads"

Anchor Chiefs v Bradworthy Res

League Match 05

Posted 18/09/2010

This was going to be a big game for the Chiefs today against 3rd place Bradworthy Res. It was not long before Chiefs Striker Shayne Voisey hit the mark with a great effort in the 6th minute. More opportunities came and went with the Chiefs narrowly missing on various occasions. It was in the 38th minute when Trevor May delivered an inch perfect back post cross for Ali Davidson to head the Chiefs into a 2 nil lead into the break. Half Time Score 2 - 0

Second half started exactly the opposite of what Chiefs Manager Mick Tattersall asked of his men, he wants a fast start but within 8 minutes Bradworthy had pulled one back after Chiefs Keeper made a great save but could not stop the rebounded strike hitting the back of the net. More misses followed as if the ball just was not going to go into the net. It was the 32nd minute before Chiefs 16 Year Old Left Winger Liam Shaxton cut inside the defence with the and lifted over the keeper onto his right foot and smashed it into the back of the net. A penalty was given to the Chiefs after the Bradworthy keeper brought down Liam Shaxton who had clearly took the ball around him, after the Referee giving the Keeper a yellow up stepped Chiefs leading goal scorer only to send it over the bar, today just was not his day.

Chiefs Manager "Another great performance and a great start. We are still lacking at attacking that ball and getting to it first and second. I want to see more killer instinct from the players, not settling with a 2 goal lead and killing the game off with more goals. Today just was not our day goals. I think at least 3 of you should have had hat tricks and we should have been in double figures. 16 Year Old Liam Shaxton, well done today lad, I told you that goal you needed would come, now you can settle down and play like you do in training matches and you will score a lot more. Defence again well done lads you were solid with the Keeper only needed a few times but when he was he did his part. Very well done lads, now lets take this to the next level as we are improving with every game."

Full Time Score 3 - 1 (Shayne Voisey 6, Ali Davidson 38 & Liam Shaxton 87)

Pilton Academicals Res v Anchor Chiefs

County Cup Match Rd 1

Posted 12/09/2010

First half saw the Chiefs start very well and were playing some great football. After almost taking the lead within the first few minutes after the ball was smashed in and a Pilton player hit it towards goal only to be saved by the post. It took 24 minutes before Shayne Voisey open his account for the Chiefs with a well placed finished. It was 5 minutes later that Trevor May smashed the ball from just inside his own half for a serious goal of the season by any standard. The ball smashed into the top corner with the Pilton Keeper only being able to watch. This strike was the talk of Rock Park for all those that came to watch and certainly a goal you wont see very often. Half Time Score 0 - 2

Second half saw the Chiefs off to a bit of a slow start and sitting back to much. Pilton pressed hard for the first 10 minutes but then the Chiefs kicked into gear again. Although no goals came in this half it was a lot more competitive by both teams showing end to end football. Shayne Voisey was denied his 2nd goal by the cross bar but this half finished without any further goals.

Chiefs Manager "Fantastic today lads, you shown the football you can play today and I cant fault anyone on that pitch. Have to mention the talking point of the day, Trevor Mays goal was something special, I have seen some great goals in my time but that has moved right to the top. Scoring from that far back for most goals is more luck than skill but this was a definite attempt at goal and what a goal it was. The goal posts could have been another 20 yards back and that would have still gone in the top corner. As Soccer AM would say "Unbelievable Tekkers" and in the words of Andy Grey "Take a bow son". A Great all round performance by everyone today and a clean sheet, I am very happy with that"

Full Time Score 0 -2 (Shayne Voisey 24 & Trevor May 73)

South Molton Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 04

Posted 12/09/2010

When we thought we got away from Sunday football, here we are playing on a Sunday. The only good thing it was a 2pm kick off and not 10.30am. Although Chiefs were with 3 1st team players and then their 2 strikers did not show up they got off to a good start. Both teams played well in the first half and the Chiefs had a few chances which they did not take. Half Time Score 0 - 0

Second half was a whole lot different from the first half. A free kick from the half way line for South Molton saw them punt the ball high in the air. A mistake from the Chiefs Centre backs allowed the ball to bounce behind them leaving the Chiefs Keeper off his line and the ball bouncing over him and into the net within the first 3 minutes. The Chiefs soon turned on the decent football and in the 12th minute pulled back the equaliser from Kev Perkins. 6 minutes later it was Trevor Mays turn to score and the Chiefs to take the lead. A poorly defended corner saw South Molton pull it back to a draw in the 25th Minute. 3 minutes from the end saw the South Molton Super Sub score a fantastic goal for the winner.

Chiefs Manager "Not the best of starts lads when your 2 strikers don't turn up, especially when we were already 3 players down. Considering we had to shift players around I thought we did a great job and out of the 3 south molton goals, 2 were are own mistakes. We done lads you battled well"

Full Time Score 3 -2 (Kev Perkins 57 & Trevor May 63)

Anchor Chiefs v Northside Atlantic

League Match 03

Posted 01/09/2010

Well not the best of starts for the Chiefs, Northside scoring in the 9th minute from a set piece. Rest of the first half its was backwards and forwards with both teams having a few moments to score. Northside Keeper making 2 top draw saves in the first half keep the score line in favour of Northside. Then in the 43rd minute another set piece undone the Chiefs again. Half Time Score 0 - 2

2nd Half the Chiefs started well but again could not make any of their chances stick. It became an end to end game but with Northside out muscling and winning everything in the air it was never going to be the Chiefs night. Again a few chances either way with neither team scoring in the 2nd half.

Chiefs Manager " Fair play to Northside Atlantic this evening, they were worthy winners and I for one am not disappointed to lose to this team. Northside are a vast improvement to the side of last season and I take my hat off to them, They were stronger than we were and won 99% of everything in the air. We did not play the game how we were supposed too and was punished. Northside's keeper was outstanding and the 2 top draws saves kept their 3 points as it could have been a draw. Well done Northside and Great Effort Chiefs"

League Match 02

Posted 25/08/2010

A great start with a goal from Birthday Boy Shaun Hastings in the 2nd minute. Few chances came and went before Ali Davidson opened his season account in the 22nd minute. Hastings bagged his 2nd goal in the 37th minute. Although Chiefs were winning we still was not playing how we should. Half Time Score 3 - 0

First 20 minutes started very sloppy with the Chiefs not taking the bull by the horn and finishing this game in style but in the 21st Minute Chiefs Left Back Mick Harrison opened his season account followed 8 minutes later with a fantasic strike from the edge of the area leaving the keeper no chance by Trevor May to open his account. We had finally started to play some decent football. Shaun Hastings then caped off his Birthday Hat-Trick in style with a goal in the 36th Minute but he still was not finished bagging his 4th 2 minutes later. Not the best performance by the Chiefs but we shown we can still put them goals away.

Chiefs Manager " Firstly well done Shaun for bagging 4 goals on his 26th Birthday and well done to Ali, Mick and Trevor for opening their Chiefs Scoring Account. We are very pleased to see a great result on the board and just as pleased to see we kept that clean sheet too. We shown we can play very good football but we need to stay switched on all the way through the game, Challenging for every ball and especially the 2nd balls. Well done lads another great result and 3 points in the bag"

Final Score 7 - 0 ( Shaun Hastings 2, 37, 81 & 83 Ali Davidson 22, Mick Harrison 66 & Trevor May 74)

Hartland Res v Anchor Chiefs

League Match 01

Posted 21/08/2010

Well its our first game of the season as a Saturday League team and we are away to Hartland Res. Everyone warned me what the conditions out at Hartland can be like and Oh Boy was they not wrong. The driving rain made this a very hard game for both teams to be fair. We started very well and pushed Hartland back straight from the whistle. Some good passing movements by the Chiefs then on 16 minutes Chiefs leading scorer from last season Shaun Hastings opened his account and within 6 minutes made it 2. In the 41st minute up popped 16 year old Chris Stockton hitting his 1st League goal off many for the young centre midfield player. A great first half under some seriously hard rain conditions. Half Time Score 0 - 3

Second half shown no let off with the rain but we kept battling few it. A blatant foul was waved away by the referee which caused us to switch of for a minute but that is all it took for Hartland to slip one in the net in the 18th Minute. A penalty call by Hartland paid off although we thought it was outside the box of a poorly marked pitch made worse by rain. A well stuck kick by hartland was well saved by Chiefs Keeper Mark Tattersall, his 6 foot 4 frame blocking the shot. Some very loose challenges came in and to be fair it was from both sides, nothing bad just poor conditions but it was not until the 39th minute when sub Brandon Neal-Reidy, another up and coming 16 year old, got himself involved in the game, the ball was in the back of the net, some confusion as to what happened but some say OG, we say Brandon's goal. Without doubt one of the worst conditions we have played in, especially with the driving rain.

Chiefs Manager Mick Tattersall "What a start to the season, rain and wind like I have never seen in a long time and certainly not when out playing football. Even in those conditions I felt we looked very strong and comfortable on the ball. 1 or 2 silly mistakes but the weather did not help. Individually and as a team, we could not have asked for a better performance. I would like to point out that we took 6 lads that were 16 year old, 4 started and 2 on the bench and with a mix of more experienced players, we did a great job today. Well done lads"

Final Score 1 - 4 (Shaun Hastings 16 & 21, Chris Stockton 41 & Brandon Neal-Reidy 84)

Great result for us against a team a division above us. We effectively played 25 players in total in that game and what a shock at half time to see a fresh 11 players warming up, but our fitness levels were very good and we played strong until the end. Well done lads
